Number of Papers published in peer-reviewed journals: Number of Papers published in non peer-reviewed journals: Final Report: Variations on Bayesian Prediction and Inference Report Title A Bayesian approach, based on updating prior information in light of new observations, via Bayes's formula, has both nice intuition and strong theoretical support. However, in some applications, there are some roadblocks to carrying out the Bayesian analysis as usual. This ARO-sponsored project considered two general types of these settings. First, for the problem of predicting a future observation, a flexible Bayesian model is available but is too computationally expensive to implement when data are streaming and fast prediction is required. Second, for the problem of inference about an unknown parameter, the Bayesian approach requires a full probability model/likelihood which can be an obstacle; indeed, there are applications where no likelihood function is available or, even in cases where a likelihood is or could be made available, it may be preferable not to use it because it depends on nuisance parameters, etc. Work done in this project addresses both the prediction and inference problems, expanding the range of applications of the Bayesian approach to help meet the Army's needs. He will also be presenting his work in the paper "Image boundary detection via a Gibbs posterior" at the end of May 2016 at the Spring Research Conference being held at Illinois Institute of Technology. Superagonism at the human somatostatin receptor subtype 4.

We have discovered a novel compound, J-2156 [(1'S, 2S)-4-amino-N-(1'-carbamoyl-2'-phenylethyl)-2-(4''-methyl-1''-naphthalenesulfonylamino)butanamide], that belongs to a new class of somatostatin receptor ligands. J-2156 binds with nanomolar affinity to the human somatostatin receptor subtype 4 and is over 400-fold subtype-selective against the other somatostatin receptors. When evaluated in a [...

Nearest Point Query on 184,088,599 Points in E with a Uniform Grid

Nearpt3 is an algorithm and implementation to preprocess more than 10 fixed points in E and then perform nearest point queries against them. With fixed and query points drawn from the same distribution, Nearpt3’s expected preprocessing and query time are θ(1), per point, with a very small constant factor. The data structure is a uniform grid in E, typically with the same number of grid cells as...

Mechanophores for Self - Healing Applications W 911 NF - 07 - 1 - 0409 611103

The transformation of chemical energy into mechanical energy is elementary in our lives, not only moving cars and airplanes, but pumping blood in our bodies and moving our eyeballs as we read these lines. The reverse action, defined as mechanochemistry [1–3], is to make chemical transformations using mechanical force, and finding simple examples may be challenging for people unfamiliar with

Exact Byzantine Consensus in Directed Graphs

For synchronous point-to-point n-node networks of undirected links, it has been previously shown that, to achieve consensus in presence of up to f Byzantine faults, the following two conditions are together necessary and sufficient: (i) n ≥ 3f + 1 and (ii) network connectivity greater than 2f . The first condition, that is, n ≥ 3f + 1, is known to be necessary for directed graphs as well. On th...
